Summary Judgment Awarded in Insurance Coverage Case

The Hennepin County District Court recently issued an order granting summary judgment in favor of Bassford Remele's client in an insurance coverage case.
Bassford Remele's client issued a commercial general liability policy to a contractor. The contractor negligently designed and installed a large new roof on a commercial building. In an earlier action, the owner recovered a verdict against the contractor for over $1 million. In the insurance case, the court held that Bassford Remele's client was not responsible to pay any part of the verdict against the contractor. The decision addressed several exclusions that typically come up in insurance coverage cases involving defective construction.
