Mark Whitmore Obtains Defense Verdict in Medical Malpractice Case

Bassford Remele Shareholder Mark R. Whitmore recently obtained a defense verdict in a two-week medical malpractice case venued in Ramsey County District Court. The plaintiff alleged that the Bassford firm's physician client was negligent in the manner in which the physician prescribed narcotic pain medications to a patient with chronic back pain and a history of six surgeries. The patient later died of a mixed drug overdose. After a short period of deliberation, the jury concluded that the physician was not negligent and that the physician's medical care complied with the standard of care in the community. The jury also found that the patient's heirs and next of kin were not entitled to any money damages arising out of the patient's death.
Mr. Whitmore has successfully tried cases in federal and state courts throughout the upper midwest involving a wide range of areas including medical malpractice, commercial and employment disputes, and personal injury. Although he handles a wide range of matters, much of his practice focuses on defending medical malpractice claims and providing guidance to area hospitals on risk management, claim prevention and governmental investigations.
