Bassford Remele Welcomes Three Associates

Bassford Remele is pleased to announce that Beth L. LaCanne, Madeline M. Gustafson, and Shannon E. Eckman have joined the firm as associates.

Beth LaCanne is a litigator focusing her practice in the areas of employment litigation/advice, professional liability, and general liability. She brings broad legal knowledge and litigation skills in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, health law, employment law, and professional licensure to her clients. She has experience in all aspects of litigation, including preparing initial case evaluations and strategy, conducting and defending depositions, and researching, drafting, and arguing dispositive motions. Beth has obtained summary judgment on several cases through her exceptional research and writing skills. She was a critical member of the team that established legal precedent in the area of insurance agent liability in Wisconsin. She is licensed in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Beth graduated magna cum laude from Hamline University School of Law, where she was an Associate Editor on the Hamline Law Review. During law school, Beth gained invaluable experience in the employment arena while externing at the Minnesota Department of Human Rights. Prior to joining Bassford Remele, Beth served as a law clerk in the Fourth Judicial District to the Honorable Diane B. Bratvold (prior to her appointment to the Minnesota Court of Appeals) and the Honorable Ivy S. Bernhardson.

Madeline Gustafson represents clients in various legal matters, including consumer law defense, employment, construction, real estate law, and professional liability. Madeline is focused on crafting results-driven solutions to ensure the most favorable outcomes for her clients. She is passionate about applying the law to everyday client problems and translating legalese into practical insights for clients. Madeline's favorite issues are complex legal questions requiring her to craft creative, out-of-the-box solutions. She has experience advocating for clients in complex landlord/tenant disputes, representing non-profit corporations, assisting in business transactions, and drafting and analyzing real estate leases and corporate documents. Madeline attended Drake University Law School, completing her Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration with honors. During law school, she interned with the Iowa Hospital Association in government relations, where she assisted in lobbying for telehealth legislation. Madeline was also selected for a prestigious business fellowship at Atlantic Media in Washington, D.C., and interned in the Office of the First Lady at the White House.

Shannon Eckman is a litigator, focusing her practice in the areas of employment litigation/advice, professional liability, and general liability. Shannon graduated from the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where she served as Secretary and Compliance Chair of the Journal of Law and Public Policy. During law school, Shannon worked as a certified student attorney in the Elder Law Clinic. Prior to law school, Shannon gained experience in disability policy while working with people with disabilities at the Olmstead Implementation Office, which facilitates policy implementation for the Minnesota Olmstead Plan. The interagency plan of measurable goals and strategies helps people with disabilities work, learn, and live life in the most integrated setting of their choice.
