January 29, 2021 - With deep sadness but fond memory, we announce our friend and former partner Greer E. Lockhart’s passing. Greer was among Minnesota’s best and most successful trial lawyers. He was one in a million who taught so many a great deal about lawyering, professionalism, and mentoring. He was a dedicated and compassionate friend who will be dearly missed.
Greer Lockhart joined Bassford Remele as the Firm’s first-ever student law clerk in 1952. He became a lawyer with the Firm upon graduation from the University of Minnesota Law School. After starting his career as an appellate lawyer, Greer’s exceptional trial skills were recognized. He was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Greer was active in the legal community, serving on the Minnesota Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board, Minnesota State Bar Association Board of Governors, and Hennepin County Bar Association Governing Council. Greer was also an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, president of the Citizens League of the Twin Cities, and president of the University of Minnesota Law Alumni Association. Greer served as Bassford Remele’s second President and Chief Executive Officer. He practiced at the Firm for more than 50 years.
