Mark Whitmore Elected CEO; Jessica Klander Elected to Board of Directors

Mark Whitmore, a member of Bassford Remele for nearly three decades, has been elected to serve as the firm’s Chief Executive Officer. Under Mark’s leadership, the firm will continue to provide outstanding legal service to its clients while advancing diversity and inclusion throughout Bassford Remele and the broader community. The firm will continue its commitment to professionalism, ethics and helping clients achieve their goals. Mark previously served as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer from 2008 to 2015.

Mark is a trial lawyer who represents and counsels health systems and other businesses and professionals in litigation, risk management, licensing, governmental investigations, and compliance matters. In addition, Mark regularly represents other businesses in litigation involving commercial disputes, products liability, construction and employment matters.

Best Lawyers recognized Mark as the 2020 “Lawyer of the Year for Medical Malpractice Law - Defendants” in the Minneapolis area. He is also listed in the area of Health Care Law. He has been selected to the Minnesota Super Lawyers list by Super Lawyers every year since 2003.

Mark graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law. He received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Macalester College.

Jessica Klander, a decade-long Bassford Remele attorney, has been elected to the firm’s Board of Directors. Jessica brings a strong desire to foster diversity, inclusion and collaboration among all members of the firm in her leadership position. She looks forward to encouraging new and creative approaches to traditional firm leadership and management and seeking input from all members of the firm.

Jessica defends businesses and professionals against liability and malpractice claims in the consumer law defense, professional liability, and general liability arenas.

Also experienced in complex litigation, employment law, non-compete disputes, and class action lawsuits, Jessica regularly represents clients in both state and federal courts across the United States. She defends creditors and credit professionals against federal consumer statute claims, defends health care providers and professionals against liability claims, and represents businesses in a spectrum of commercial disputes. She also consults with and trains clients on compliance with state and federal regulations.

Jessica graduated summa cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Hennepin County Bar Association.
