Overview

Mr. Hill is a trial lawyer whose practice focuses on real estate professional liability matters with significant high stakes claims, class actions, and anti-trust matters.

Mr. Hill represents corporations and professionals in trial and appellate courts, licensing boards, and at arbitrations and mediations. He recently successfully defended the area’s largest real estate brokerage company against a major anti-trust allegation, and regularly defends the company’s agents on all issues, including malpractice claims, ethics complaints, and licensing revocation hearings.

Mr. Hill is a National Board of Trial Advocacy Certified Civil Trial Specialist and a past Minnesota State Bar Association Certified Civil Trial Senior Specialist. He has arbitrated and mediated hundreds of cases as a Minnesota Supreme Court qualified arbitrator and mediator.

Mr. Hill is member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and was recently listed in The Best Lawyers in America© for his work in commercial litigation.

Representative Cases

Part of trial team representing approximately 70,000 individual upper Midwest farmers seeking damages from seed producer, Syngenta, resulting from premature release of genetically modified corn seed. In re: Syngenta Litigation, 27-CV-15-3785 (Minn. Dist. Ct., filed Mar. 10, 2015)

Affirmance of district court dismissal of Fair Housing Act claims for discrimination and retaliation by tenant against real estate broker and agent; Peet v. Associated Bank, N.A., 556 Fed. Appx. 546 (Minn. Ct. App. Feb. 11, 2014).

Affirmed trial court summary judgment dismissing commission claims against real estate broker and affirmed court award of bad faith attorney’s fees against opposing counsel.

Affirmed district court dismissal of claims for indemnity arising out of Pierringer release and for broker liability for agents allegedly intentional assault.

Amicus curie brief to state supreme court resulting in decision that brokerage clients were not engaged in the unauthorized selling of insurance in Minnesota; Allen v. Burnet Realty, LLC, 801 N.W.2d 153 (Minn. 2011).

Represented a realty company, obtaining a favorable decision in an arbitration agreement involving alleged breach of contract, negligence, breach of duty to disclose, fraud, and consumer fraud.

Defended a title company, obtaining a favorable outcome in a class action involving the alleged violations of Minnesota’s Prevention of Consumer Fraud Act and the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
