Shad has obtained successful outcomes in a wide variety of cases for a wide variety of clients in South Dakota state and Federal Court. He grew up on a cattle ranch in western North Dakota. He began his career as a staff assistant for the late Senator Tim Johnson, and thereafter attended law school at the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law, obtaining his J.D. in 2017. After law school, he clerked for three different justices of the South Dakota Supreme Court, including the Honorable Justice Glen Severson, Justice (now Chief Justice) Steven Jensen, and Chief Justice David Gilbertson.
Shad resides in Sioux Falls and is committed to strengthening his community and maintaining his ties to agriculture and the vibrant rural and tribal communities in the Dakotas, Minnesota, and beyond.
Shad is licensed to practice law in South Dakota, in both state and federal court, as well as with the Lower Brule Sioux Tribal Court.
