What does female empowerment mean to you, and when do you feel the most empowered?

I had to look up the definition of empowerment to answer this question. The definition that means the most to me is “the process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one’s self and claiming one’s rights.” We all deserve this!

My six-year-old daughter is the most empowered female I know (which can be a challenge as her mother). Her favorite song is Run the World (Girls) by Beyonce, and when we drop my son off for any of his many sports, she always screams, “Girl party!” She cherishes being a girl and spending time with just the girls.

I, too, feel the most empowered when I’m surrounded by other women. My female friendships and professional relationships have shaped who I am. I gain confidence from my friends’ vulnerability and support. When my friends share the obstacles they have overcome and how they navigated challenges with strength and grace, I feel inspired to do the same.
