Financial Services Industry

We represent banks, credit unions, securities groups, and other financial services organizations on a state and national scale, reaching into Canada as well. For more than 20 years, we’ve practiced in this area of the law with each set of circumstances as varied as the market, ranging from small, open-and-shut claims to complex, multi-billion dollar cases crossing several states.

Some of our past successes include defending claims alleging mismanagement of billions of dollars of timberland held in a trust, as well as a case that set the Minnesota standards for trustees’ use of discretion. We’ve defended a large bank in a breach of contract, interference with business relations, and deceptive trade practices lawsuit seeking $200 million in damages, and a bank involved in a nationally significant issue involving Ponzi scheme presumption. We also regularly defend financial institutions facing consumer-protection lawsuits. Through experience, we’ve developed a deep understanding of the complexities that come with financial services industry cases. And more importantly, we’ve developed the know-how to adeptly advise our clients of the best course of action in every case.

Comments from clients and the legal community:

Many times our industry does not win in court....but, we did win. And we did because our attorney understood the issues and presented the facts with a clarity that resulted in every juror finding in our favor. Maybe the best way to describe the process is that it was very organized and done very professionally. I hope we don't need to go through an ordeal like it again, but if we do that Firm will be our first phone call. (Chief Executive Officer, Bank)
